Traditional Cuisine of Veria



One of the most famous dishes of the region are fasoulontavas (φασουλονταβάς) , i.e. baked beans. It comes from the word “tava” which in Turkish means pan.




Pies (pites-πίτες), pastry with filling such as cheese or spinach or minced meat or vegetables. 







Meatballs (keftedakia-κεφτεδάκια), is mince meat with yeasty bread  in the shape of a small ball usually fried.





Fried, (tigania-τηγανιά) is fried pork cut into small pieces. 











Sarmades (σαρμάδες), is a mixture of rice with minced meat wrapped in cabbage leaves.






Revani (ρεβανί), is Veria’s specialty. It is a syrupy cake served with 
icecream in the summer.








Syrupy donuts (loukoumades - λουκουμάδες), is fried dough dipped in syrup and honey. The restaurants and taverns usually serve them after dinner as a treat.
